Alvin Wright was one of the most feared defensive linemen to ever play for Jacksonville State University. In 1981, the Wedowee, Ala. native was named the Gulf South Conference “Defensive Player of the Year” as a nose guard. A four-year letterman, Wright registered more than 200 solo tackles, 388 total tackles and 30 sacks during his outstanding XXX addition to earning GSC “Freshman of the Year” honors in 1980, Wright was an Honorable Mention All-America pick after his sophomore season in ’81. He helped JSU to two Gulf South Conference championships and three trips to the NCAA playoffs. Wright went on to enjoy several successful seasons in the NFL with the Los Angeles Rams, where he played from 1985-91. While seeing action in 80 games, including 63 starts, Wright recorded 196 solo tackles, 71 assists and eight quarterback sacks. In addition, he led all Los Angeles defensive linemen in tackles four consecutive years. He also had a streak of starting 50 consecutive games from 1988-91.
