Ken “Doc” Lett quarterbacked Jacksonville State University out of football mediocrity when he led the 1970 team to a 10-0-0 record and a victory over Florida A&M before 35,000 fans in the Orange Blossom Classic in Miami, Florida. The undefeated season was only the second in modern history for the Gamecocks and placed that team as one of the best in the school’s long gridiron history dating back to the 1890’s. Lett passes for 4625 yards during his four years at Jacksonville State to establish a new career passing mark and was voted captain in 1971. Lett completed 96 of 216 passes for 1168 yards in 1968 and 100 of 194 for 1322 yards in ’69. During the ’70 campaign, Lett hit on 67 of 148 for 1020 yards and 10 touchdowns. Lett’s final year saw him complete 82 of 190 for 1115 yards to push his career totals to 4980 yards total offense and 30 touchdowns passing. He graduated from Glencoe High School in Glencoe, Alabama.
