Ed Lett is the most prolific passer in Jacksonville State University history. During his brilliant career (1979-82) he threw for 7,092 yards and 61 touchdowns. A native of Glencoe, Lett established 24 game, season, and career passing records, and all of them still stand, including the most touchdown passes in one season (22). During the 1981 season he tossed four touchdown passes in three separate games. As the starting quarterback for three years, Lett led the Gamecocks to a 26-8 record, a pair of Gulf South Conference championships and three consecutive trips to the NCAA Division II playoffs. A two-time All-GSC performer, Lett was named the Gulf South Conference “Offensive Player of the Year” both in 1981 and 1982 as well as the Alabama Sports Writer’s Association “Amateur Athlete of the Year” in ’81. He was also named Kodak and Associated Press All America in ’81 and ’82. He joins his brother, Doc (Class of ’88), who was also an outstanding quarterback, in the JSU Athletic Hall of Fame.
