Jim Skidmore became Jacksonville State University’s first full-time Athletic Trainer in August of 1974 and worked as the only full-time staff member in the Sports Medicine Department for more than 19 years. A native of Harlan, Ky., Skidmore is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association and the Alabama Athletic Trainers Association. He was elected into the American Sports Medicine Institute in 2005, which is one of the elite honors bestowed upon an Athletic Trainer. While at JSU, the Gamecocks became the only NCAA program to be crowned national champions in Football, Baseball and Basketball. The Gamecocks accumulated 37 Gulf South Conference championships, including nine football titles, seven men’s basketball championships, two volleyball titles and one women’s basketball championship. The Gamecocks also won four consecutive Men’s and Women’s All-Conference Championships in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. JSU continued the winning ways in the Ohio Valley Conference, winning numerous Championships, including six during the 2004-05 seasons and the Ohio Valley Conference Women’s All-Sports Trophy.
