In each of the five head coaching positions he has held since graduating from Jacksonville State in 1951, John Meadows has rewarded the school administration, students and the fans with an undefeated season.  Meadows produced his first undefeated team in his second year as head coach, guiding Hanceville to a 10-0 mark in 1956. Later, Meadows had undefeated seasons at Gordo (1958), Scottsboro (1960 and 1965), Butler (1967), and Lawrenceville, TN (1984).  Meadows won state titles in 1965 (Hanceville), 1958 (Gordo), 1965 (Scottsboro), and 1982 (Lawrenceville).  Meadows’1984 club did not win the state, but probably produced the most attention as they did not allow a point in the first eight games outscoring its opponents 258-0.  Meadows, who signed a professional baseball contract after leaving JSU was named state coach of the year in 1957, ’60, ’65, and ’82.
