Malcolm Street began his broadcasting career as a student at JacksonvilleState in 1953. His first radio broadcast of a Gamecock athletic event came while he was a student in 1939. From that point on, through the 1989 season, Street was known as “The Voice of the Gamecocks.” He began his illustrious career at WHMA radio on March 3, 1941. Street received JSU’s “Alumnus of the Year” honor in 1950 as well as The Anniston Star’s “Man of the Year” award. He received an Honorary Doctorate from JacksonvilleState in 1980. His honors include being named Associated Press “Sportscaster of the Year” in 1974 and “Broadcaster of the Year” in 1980. Street served as President of the Alabama Broadcaster’s Association in 1952. In ’66 he received the highest award possible from Boy Scouts of America, the Silver Beaver Award.
