Hanssler is the only three-time All-American in Jacksonville State gymnastics history.
During her All-American senior season in 1984, she entered the NCAA Division II Regionals as the top all-around gymnast in the nation. Despite an injury in the regionals, she returned to help Jacksonville State win its first NCAA National Championship with an individual finish of fourth place in the all-around. She posted a score of 9.10 to tie for second in the uneven bars, a score of 8.92 to finish third in vaulting and also finished third in floor exercise with a 9.20.
As a junior, Hanssler was named an All-American after finishing sixth overall in the NCAA Individual Championships and second in the balance beam. The Gamecocks posted their best finish since the program begain eight years earlier with a fifth-place finish in the NCAA Championships.
Hanssler earned her first All-America honor as a sophomore in 1982 after helping the Gamecocks to their fourth-straight Alabama State Championship. During her freshman season of 1981, the Gamecocks posted a 10th place finish in their first NCAA National Championship after winning their third-straight Alabama State Championship.
The Greenwich, Conn., native was a student assistant coach for Hall of Fame Coach Robert Dillard and helped the Gamecocks become the first team in NCAA Gymnastics history to win consecutive titles.
