Matias Anselmo is one of the most decorated players in Jax State's storied men's golf history. In the ASUN Conference, the native of Argentina was the 2002 ASUN Freshman of the Year and followed that up as the 2003 ASUN Golfer of the Year. He was also a two-time First Team All-Conference selection. Anselmo helped lead Jacksonville State to back-to-back ASUN Championship titles in 2002 and 2003, were he posted two consecutive Top-10 finishes at the Championship (T6th; 2002 - 214 and 2nd; 2003 - 208).
He played his senior season in the Ohio Valley Conference and shared the league's Golfer of the Year Award with teammate Nick Mackay. The duo also shared medalist honors with at the 2004 OVC Championship. Anselmo's 71.5 scoring average in 2002-03 was the lowest in school history at the time, and remains Top 5 in the Gamecock record books. on in school history. His career scoring average of 72.6 is sixth-best in Jax State history.
As a senior he was awarded Jax State's coveted Eagle Owl Award for 2004-05,. In 2020, the ASUN Conference named Anselmo as one of 20 individuals to the league's men's golf 2001-2010 All-Decade Team.
Anselmo was inducted into the Jax State Athletic Hall of Fame in 2019. He currently serves as Director at the Hernan Rey Golf Academy and works as a golf broadcaster and analyst for ESPN international golf coverage. Since 2021, he has covered The Masters at Augusta National for ESPN Deportes.
