A punter for the Gamecocks from 2001-04, Rhodes is the 36th member of the JSU football program in the Hall of Fame. He finds his place there after a career that saw him become JSU’s first three-time All-American, being honored in 2001, 2002 and 2003. Rhodes led the Gamecocks into a dominant start in the Ohio Valley Conference, flipping the field on his opponents and setting up JSU’s back-to-back OVC titles in 2003 and 2004, the Gamecocks’ first two years in the league.

Rhodes played in 43 games in his JSU career, punting a total of 218 times for a total of 9,208 yards. His average of 42.24 yards per punt is still the most by a Gamecock with more than 20 total attempts in a career. He became just the second person in school history to boot a punt over 70 yards, when he launched one 70 yards against Southwest Texas in October of his freshman season in 2001. One month later against Troy State, he booted a 74-yard punt that stood as the school record until 2006.

He was a four-time all-conference performer and was named the conference player of the week seven times in his career. As a freshman in 2001, he punted 39 times for an average of 45.69 yards, still the school record for a player with more than five attempts in a season. In his sophomore campaign of 2002, Rhodes punted 60 times for an average of 43.0 yards, with 16 punts that went over 50 yards and 15 pinned inside the 20 yard line. His junior season saw him lead the OVC with 67 punts for an average of 41.2 yards, while his senior season saw him average 40.0 yards on 52 punts. He is the only player in school history to average over 40 yards in four seasons.
