Robert Dillard coached the Gamecocks to consecutive NCAA Division II titles in 1984 and 1985, the school’s first of six NCAA National Championships. Jax State finished with 201-67 record  and posted nine winning seasons under his leadership from 1975-1985. He earned the Kellogg’s National Coach-of-the-Year in 1977 and was twice named the NCAA Division II National Coach-of-the-Year. He won four consecutive Alabama State Gymnastics titles from 1975-79. JSU made its first NCAA appearance in 1979-80 as the team finished 10th in the nation after posting a 27-3 record and winning the regional title. JSU also won the Regional Title in 1981-82 and finished as NCAA Runner-up in Division II before posting back-to-back NCAA Championships in 1984-85. He earned his Master’s at JSU after earning his BS from Howard College.
