Terry Owens (’66) is considered one of the top all around athletes in Jacksonville State University history.  Owens, 6-6, 235-pound tight end in football and center in basketball, led the Gamecocks to championship in each of these sports the two years he played at JSU.  Jax State, with Owens leading the Alabama Collegiate Conference in rebounding, won the league tournament title in 1964-65 and the regular season crown in 1965-66.  In football, Owens caught the game winning TD pass against both Troy State and North Alabama in key games down the stretch to win the ACC championship in 1965.Following graduation, Owens was drafted by the Chicago Bears and the San Diego Chargers.  He signed with the Chargers and started almost every game during a 10-year career.  The highlight came in 1975 when he was named NFL Man of the Year for the San Diego Chargers.
