WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Andrew Edge hit a walk-off double in the bottom of the tenth inning to lead Jacksonville State to a 9-8 come-from-behind win over the Indiana Hoosiers on Sunday.
JSU's Bill Henke (1-0) scattered four hits over the final 2 2/3 innings to earn his first win of the season. Indiana's Jake Dunning (2-1) gave up just two hits in 2 1/3 innings, but got stuck with the loss.
Indiana (6-8) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a Alex Dickerson RBI single and then added a run in the fourth when Tyler Rogers stole home to build a 2-0 advantage.
The Hoosiers then scored three runs in the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly by Josh Phegley, and back-to-back home runs by Dickerson and Michael Earley to chase JSU starter Ben Tootle as IU built a 5-0 lead.
The Gamecocks (8-7) got their first hit of the game in the sixth inning when Blake Seguin extended his hitting streak to 13 games with a double to right center to lead off the inning. Sam Eberle walked and Todd Cunningham walked before Steven Leach had a RBI single through the left side to score JSU's first run of the game.
Daniel Adamson followed with a bases loaded walk to chase IU starter Blake Monar. Jake Welch then singled to left field to drive in two runs and Spencer Brandes tied the game with a RBI single up the middle.
Matt McLaughlin followed with an infield grounder that scored Welch and gave the Gamecocks a 6-5 lead.
Indiana battled back to take an 8-6 lead in the top of the eighth inning when Dunning had a RBI triple to left center and Phegley knocked in two more runs with a single to left field.
Jacksonville State rallied in the home half of the eighth inning when Heath Wall was hit by a pitch and Daniel Adamson walked, which forced Indiana to bring in Dunning to pitch. Brandes followed with a one-out walk to load the bases and McLaughlin drove in his second run of the game with an infield grounder. Seguin had a sacrifice fly to right field to score Adamson and tie the game at 8-8.
Adamson led off the extra inning with a single up the middle and stole second. Edge then hit a 2-1 pitch to center field to give the Gamecocks the win.
Welch and McLaughlin each had a pair of RBI, while Adamson scored three runs to lead the Gamecocks.
The Gamecocks will face Bradley at 11:30 a.m. on Monday.
