WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Todd Cunningham doubled off the left field wall to score Andrew Edge in the tenth inning to lead Jacksonville State to a 7-6 come-from-behind win over Hartford in the Gamecocks' final game at the Russ Matt Invitational on Tuesday.
Jordan Beistline (1-1) tossed 2 2/3 innings of relief to earn the second extra inning win for the Gamecocks over the last three days. Steve Sobocinski (0-2) gave up the game winning hit to get stuck with the loss for the Hawks.
With the game tied at 6-6 in the extra frame, Spencer Brandes walked and Edge came in to pinch run and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Sam Eberle. Cunningham then hit the first pitch off the wall to score Edge and give the Gamecocks their eighth come-from-behind win of the season.
Leach and Matt McLaughlin each finished with a pair of hits to lead the Gamecocks at the plate. Blake Seguin extended his hitting streak to a team-best 15 games with a single to right field in the eighth inning.
Hartford jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first on a RBI double by Mike Amendola and a RBI single by Ben Sobocinski, but the Gamecocks battled back to take the lead in the third inning.
Heath Wall and Brandes both walked and McLaughlin singled to load the bases before Eberle and Cunningham both walked with bases loaded to tie the game at 2-2. Leach then hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field to give the Gamecocks a 3-2 lead.
Hartford tied the game in the home half of the third when Andy Drexel scored on a double steal to tie the game at 3-3.
Jax State answered in the top of the fourth inning when Seguin had a sacrifice fly to score Brandes and Leach followed with an RBI infield grounder to give the Gamecocks a 5-3 lead.
The Hawks pushed three runs across in the bottom of the fourth inning, thanks to RBI by Mike Amendola, Ben Sobocinski and Drexel, but Jax State tied the game in the seventh inning.
Leach led off with a double down the left field line, while Adamson walked and both moved up on a passed ball. Wall singled through the left side to score Leach and tie the score at 7-7.
Amendola and Drexel each had a pair of hits to lead Hartford.
Jacksonville State will play its sixth game in six days on Wednesday at Troy. Game time is set for 3 p.m., at Riddle-Pace Field.
