David Farrar Announces Retirement from JSU

JACKSONVILLE –Jacksonville State's David Farrar announced Friday that he will retire in early February of 2012 after more than three years of service to the University.

Farrar, who was hired as Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs in the fall of 2009, plans on returning to consulting work in Tennessee after retiring from athletic administration.

“I have certainly enjoyed my time at Jacksonville State and I have to say of all the places that I've worked, I've developed more friendships here than anywhere else,” Farrar said. “I especially would like to thank University President Dr. Meehan, and former athletic director Oval Jaynes for the opportunity.

“I've been extremely excited to see the optimism and scope of the new leadership that has been provided by Mr. Warren Koegel,” Farrar added. “I think Jacksonville State University is on the horizon of great things under his leadership.”

Jacksonville State's fundraising has grown tremendously under Farrar's leadership, including the sale of corporate sponsorships, suites and club level seats at Burgess-Snow Field.

“I want to thank David for all of his hard work in all areas of external affairs, including fund raising, ticket sales and corporate sponsorship,” Koegel said. “Having spent the last five months working together, I've been very impressed with his ability in the role of Associate Athletic Director and I want to wish him well in his future endeavors.”

Koegel said that he will begin an immediate search to find Farrar's replacement and hopes to have someone in place early next year. Farrar's last day on the job will be February 3, 2012.
