The Jacksonville State baseball team will host Eastern Illinois in a three-game Ohio Valley Conference series this weekend, with Thursday's game scheduled for 3 p.m. at Rudy Abbott Field.
Jacksonville State is 12-14 overall and 6-3 in conference play and currently is tied for fourth in the league standings, while EIU started the season 3-14, but posted a 3-1 mark last week to improve to 6-15.
Left-hander Casey Antley (4-2, 3.69 ERA) will get the start for the Gamecocks on Thursday and will face EIU's Andrew Grahn (0-2, 5.75) in a game that was moved up from an early evening game to avoid the predicted cold temperatures.
JSU's Taylor Shields (4-2, 3.55) will face Joe Greenfield on Friday, and Adam Polk (2-4, 4.66) will get the start in the series finale on Saturday afternoon against Matt Borens (0-4, 5.45).
Michael Bishop, who was named the OVC co-Player of the Week, leads the Gamecocks with a .365 batting average, which ranks third in the Ohio Valley Conference, and he has 18 runs, 10 doubles and nine RBI. EIU is led by Nathan Sopena with a .4311 batting average with three doubles and eight RBI.
Jacksonville State leads the all-time series 17-14 against the Panthers, including winning 2-of-3 last season. EIU won the opener 17-8, before the Gamecocks won game two 7-2, and 15-3 in the finale.
All three games can be heard on the JSU Radio Network and live stats are available at JSUGamecockSports.com.
