CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Jacksonville State women's tennis team dropped its fourth consecutive match on Saturday with a 7-0 setback to College of Charleston.
The Gamecocks fell to 4-8 on the season, while the Cougars of C of C, ranked 61st-nationally, improved to 6-4.
C of C made quick work of Jax State in singles by sweeping all three doubles matches.
JSU regrouped in singles play with all six matches tightly contested. Freshman
Olivia Nguyen took her opponent, Katherine Schofield, to a third set before dropping the match in a super tie breaker. Nguyen took the first set, 6-4, before Schofield bounced back to force the third set with a 6-3 win in the second set.
JSU's
Zoe Bizinos suffered a 7-5, 6-4 loss to Olivia McMillan of C of C at No. 4. The Cougars' Irene Viana ousted Jax State's
Danielle Kerindi at No. 5 – 7-6, 6-2. Senior
Kelly Tomlin fell in straight sets to Jamie Harrell, 6-2, 6-3.
At the top-two spots, JSU's
Raisa Guasti and
Raphaela Lima lost their respective singles matches.
The Gamecocks return to action on March 15 as they begin a three-match homestand against Alabama State. JSU opens Ohio Valley Conference play on March 16 and 17 with Belmont and Tennessee State respectively.
