
Rifle Matches Season Best Aggregate Mark in Gamecock Invite

JACKSONVILLE – In its first home competition of the season, the Jacksonville State rifle team matched its season-high aggregate score in the annual Gamecock Invitational at the Gamecock Rifle Range.
The Gamecocks tallied a final mark of 4666 for the second time this season and matching the total it turned in on September 29 in Oxford, Mississippi. Jax State fired a 2334 in air rifle and a 2332 in smallbore. JSU placed third in the six-team meet behind Memphis and Nebraska. The Gamecocks moved in to the top-10 of the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association after its weekend mark.
Senior David Sink paced the JSU lineup with a total of 1170. Sink, from Crumpton, Maryland, posted a 585 in each of the two disciplines. Sink finished seventh on the individual leaderboard. Senior Mekenna Richardson tallied the best smallbore mark on the team and added a 583 in air rifle. Freshman Mackenzie Van Patten rounded out the top-three JSU finishers with a 582 in both smallbore and air rifle.
Sophomore Sam Payne added an 1163, while junior Zach Schmidt closed out the JSU scorecard with an 1140.
The Gamecock Invitational wrapped up the 2018 portion of the schedule as JSU will return to action on January 12, hosting The Citadel.
