
Sink Leads Jax State Rifle Against Murray State

JACKSONVILLE – Senior David Sink paced the Jacksonville State rifle team against Ohio Valley Conference rival Murray State over the weekend at the Gamecock Rifle Range.
The Gamecocks, competing at home for the second consecutive weekend, turned in a 4647. The Racers of Murray State registered a 4689. JSU scored a 2345 in air rifle and a 2302 in smallbore.
The two squads will face off against each other for the second straight weekend in Murray, Kentucky on January 26. That outing will prep the two OVC programs for the 2019 OVC Rifle Championship that will be hosted by Jax State on February 2-3.
Sink was the top Gamecock finisher in both regiments as the Crumpton, Maryland native tallied an aggregate score of 1166. Sink finished fourth in the individual standings. MSU's Barbara Schlapfer was the medalist with a final mark of 1184. Sink recorded a 592 in air rifle and a 574 in smallbore.
JSU senior Mekenna Richardson posted the best smallbore mark by the Gamecocks with a 578. Richardson placed seventh on the individual leaderboard. Sophomore Sam Payne carded a 585 in air rifle and a 576 in smallbore. Freshman Mackenzie Van Patten rounded out the scoring for JSU with an 1160. Van Patten shot a 586 in air rifle and a 574 in smallbore.
