
Rifle Awaits NCAA Championship Fate After NCAA Qualifier

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State rifle team will have to wait on the NCAA Rifle Championship Selection Committee on its fate with the 2019 NCAA Rifle Championships after Saturday's NCAA qualifying match against Ole Miss at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall.
The Gamecocks finished with an aggregate score of 4642, while the Rebels posted a 4664. Jax State registered a 2336 in air rifle and a 2306 in smallbore.
Sophomore Sam Payne led JSU with a third-place finish after combining to shoot an 1165. Payne, from Cartersville, Georgia, fired a 586 in air rifle and a 579 in smallbore. Senior David Sink posted the second-best score with a final tally of 1162. Freshman Mackenzie Van Patten matched Sink in the aggregate score, while senior Trace Haynes rounded out the scoring for JSU with an 1159.
