
Gamecock Rifle Tops Georgia Southern

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State rifle team continued to turn in solid numbers with a final tally of 4666 against Georgia Southern on Saturday at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall on the JSU campus.
The Gamecocks were 61 points better than the Eagles, who finished with a 4605. Jax State fired a 2348 in air rifle and separated itself from GSU with a 2318 in smallbore. The Eagles posted a 2333 in air rifle and a 2272 in smallbore.
Freshman Angus Babcock led the Gamecocks with an aggregate mark of 1167, finishing second in the overall standings. Babcock placed third in both air rifle and smallbore after completing the day with a 588 and 579 respectively. Sophomore Kim Jettenberg tallied the top score in smallbore with a 583. She added a 581 in air rifle to finish fourth overall. Junior Kaila Jones bolstered JSU's air rifle mark with a 591.
Jax State claimed the top four spots on the smallbore leaderboard with sophomore Lars Lilleng carding a 582, followed by Babcock's 572 in smallbore. Senior Owen Goad rounded out the top-four placements with a 579. Senior Mackenzie Van Patten added a 588 in air rifle, while Goad turned in a 586. Freshman Clark McWhorter had a solid day, finishing among the top-10 individuals after scoring a 586 in air rifle and a 569 in smallbore. Senior Michael Dietz and Jones rounded out JSU's top-10 finishers with aggregate scores of 1152 and 1149 respectively.
Ashley Judson of Georgia Southern was the match medalist with a final score of 1169.
The Gamecocks will conclude the fall portion of the 2021-22 schedule with the annual JSU Invitational. Jax State will host Murray State, North Georgia, UT Martin and UAB.
