Gamecock Rifle Wraps Up NCAA Rifle Sectional

OXFORD, Miss. – The Jacksonville State rifle team finished the NCAA Rifle Sectional with one of its best scores of the season, but will have to await word if it will be selected for the NCAA Rifle Championships.

The Gamecocks combined for a 4652 on Saturday against Ole Miss on the UM campus. The Rebels posted a 4721. JSU's aggregate mark was the best since shooting a 4655 against Murray State on January 23. Jax State fired a 2348 in air rifle and added a 2304 in smallbore.

Junior Mackenzie Van Patten led the squad with a final tally of 1167 after recording a 591 in air rifle and a 576 in smallbore. Aimed seventh place in the individual standings. Her mark in air rifle was the second-best from a JSU shooter, one mark behind junior Michael Dietz, who carded a 592 in air rifle. Dietz rounded out the top-10 with an 1160.

Junior Owen Goad added an 1159 with scores of 580 in air rifle and 578 in smallbore. Senior Sam Payne collected an 1153 with a 577 in air rifle and a 576 in smallbore Freshman Lars Lilleng rounded out the team score with an 1151 after a 585 in air rifle and 566 in smallbore.
