
Gamecock Rifle Dominates The Citadel in Sunday Match

CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Jacksonville State rifle team nearly matched last weeks total output of 4660 on Sunday in the rescheduled match with The Citadel.
The Gamecocks, ranked 13th in the current Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association's weekly poll, fired a 4659 in the Palmetto State on Sunday after a 2348 in air rifle and a 2311 in smallbore. JSU's mark in smallbore was the best team score this season in that portion of the match. The Bulldogs of The Citadel posted an aggregate score of 4394. JSU and The Citadel were scheduled to face off against each other at the beginning of October, but that match was postponed due to Hurricane Ian.
JSU claimed eight of the top-10 overall scores, highlighted by junior Kim Jettenberg's top combined score of 1170. Jettenberg led JSU's smallbore score with a 587. She finished the day with a 583 in air rifle. Junior Lars Lilleng turned in JSU's top air rifle score among the team counting scores as he finished with a 588 in smallbore. Lilleng claimed third place on the individuals list with a final mark of 1162. Freshman Annie Iannotti was the top overall finisher in smallbore with a 594.
Sophomore Angus Babcock claimed silver on the overall list after scoring a 587 in air rifle and a 578 in smallbore for a final total of 1165. Sophomore Clark McWhorter was fourth overall after a 582 in air rifle and a 578 in smallbore (1158). Freshman Kyle Orr rounded out the top five individuals with a combined total of 1157. The newcomer carded a 587 in air rifle and a 570 in smallbore.
Newcomer Sam Burrow (1153), senior Michael Dietz (1148) and senior Kaila Jones (1126) finished sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.
The Gamecocks will be in competition for the third consecutive week as they host Memphis on Saturday, Nov. 5 at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall on the JSU campus.
