
Freshman Angus Babcock Leads JSU Rifle at NCAA Qualifier

OXFORD, Miss. – The Jacksonville State rifle team turned in a solid effort in the NCAA Qualifier match on the University of Mississippi campus Saturday afternoon.
The Gamecocks fired a 4674 combined score after posting a 2361 in air rifle and added a 2313 in smallbore. The Rebels of Ole Miss accumulated an aggregate score of 4719 on their home targets. JSU will now await word from the NCAA Rifle Championship committee if they will be selected to compete in the 2022 NCAA Rifle Championships. The championships will be hosted by North Carolina State on March 11-12.
Freshman Angus Babcock led the Gamecocks overall with a final scoresheet of 1174. Babcock turned in a 593 in air rifle and recorded a 581 in smallbore to place seventh. Sophomore Kim Jettenberg finished right behind him with a final tally of 1170. Jettenberg produced a 586 in air rifle and a 584in smallbore. Senior Mackenzie Van Patten rounded out the top-10 individual leaderboard. She posted JSU's best air rifle score with a 595 and shared second place in air rifle. Van Patten finished her day with a 570 in smallbore.
Sophomore Lars Lilleng bolstered the JSU score with a total of 1157. He registered a 580 in air rifle and a 577 in smallbore. Junior Kaila Jones aided in the JSU air rifle mark with a 587, while freshman Clark McWhorter fired a 571 in smallbore to round out the team score.
