McWhorter Concludes NCAA Rifle Championship

AKRON, Ohio – Sophomore Clark McWhorter concluded the 2023 NCAA Rifle Championship on Friday, representing Jacksonville State as an individual in the 2023 NCAA Smallbore Championship, hosting by Akron.
McWhorter was one of four individuals selected by the NCAA Rifle Committee to compete for the individual crown in the smallbore portion of the 2023 NCAA Rifle Championships. The Springville,
Alabama native fired a 569 inside the Rhodes Arena on the Akron campus. McWhorter bolstered his season resume' with a season-best 588 in the NCAA Qualifier match at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall on February 18. Throughout the season, he averaged a 568 over 13 outings during the 2022-23 season.
He was aiming to be the third member of the Jacksonville State rifle program to be an NCAA Individual Champion. It marked the second consecutive year in which Jax State had representation at the NCAA Rifle Championships as former Gamecock Mackenzie Van Patten competed in the NCAA Air Rifle Championships last season.
The University od Alaska claimed the 2023 NCAA Smallbore title after posting a 2349 as a team.
