HUNTSVILLE – Jax State wrapped up its second-straight host meet of the season on Friday with the Huntsville-based Southern Showcase.
The Jax State-hosted Southern Showcase run at John Hunt Park is one of the region's prominent cross country meets, drawing teams from all across the Southeast.
Ole Miss took the team titles in both events, joined in the top five by Auburn, Alabama and Kentucky.
In the first 8K race of the season, the Gamecock men came home 18th overall as a team just a few points shy of Louisiana and Samford directly ahead. The women capped the day in 25th as a unit.
For the ladies, Lindsay Fletcher led the way with a new personal best 18:52.2 time. Sophomore Anna Strickland clocked a 20:12, just a few spots ahead of senior Sierra Wainer. Trinity Schraudner and Juliana Ballew rounded out the Gamecocks' scoring.
In the men's 8K, sophomore Jack Lowe's 25:51.3 time paced the Gamecocks in 101st of more than 300 competitors. Rodrigo Fraga turned in a time of 26:07.1 to follow Lowe as the pair have scored one-two for Jax State in the first two meets of the season. Sophomore Tanner Rice shaved nearly a minute off his previous best with a 26:33 time to cross third for Jax State just ahead of Steele Joined. A big race for Mason McMahon saw him round out the Gamecock top five.
Still missing a few pieces out with injury, Jax State head coach Jeremy Provence was pleased with his teams resiliency on Friday. As depth in the runner lineup improves this season, Provence expects the results will as well
