
No. 15 Gamecocks Start Strong Against #16 Morehead State

JACKSONVILLE – The No. 15 Jacksonville State rifle team opened the 2024-25 season with a solid start by downing former Ohio Valley Conference foe Morehead State on Saturday at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall.
The Gamecocks were 20 marks better than the Eagles with an aggregate of 4675. MSU posted a 4655 combined on the day. Jax State had the edge in both smallbore and air with a 2316 and bolstered their leverage with a2359 in air rifle.
Jax State sophomore Frans Rasmusson was the individual medalist with a final tally of 1176. Rasmusson fired a smallbore-best 584 and added a 592 in air rifle to claim third place in the individual leaderboard. Senior Sam Burrow was the other Gamecock to finish in the top-five in the individual standing after a total of 1166. Burrow registered a 586 in air rifle and turned in a 580 in smallbore.
Gamecock newcomer Jenny Ek carded the best air rifle mark of the match in her collegiate debut. The Fredrickstad, Norway native collected a 594 on Saturday to lead Jax State in that portion of the match. Sophomore Debi Weiser posted a top-five mark in air rifle with a 587. Sophomore Annie Iannotti and freshman Emmajames Stanton rouned out the top-10 air rifle scores with a pair of 583 marks.
Iannotti placed fifth in smallbore with a 578, while senior Clark McWhorter and freshman Alex Watts finished in the top-10 with scores of 574 each in smallbore.
Jax State returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 26 in Oxford, Mississippi against the Rebels of Ole Miss.
