Rifle Eyes NCAA Sectionals After Sunday's Mark of 4682

OXFORD, Miss. – The Jacksonville State rifle team posted a second consecutive cumulative score of 4682 on Sunday against Murray State in a neutral setting of the University of Mississippi.
The match with the Racers served as a tune up for the NCAA Sectionals next weekend in Jacksonville. Jax State turned in a 2347 in air rifle and a 2308 in smallbore. The Racers, who claimed the Ohio Valley Conference Championship last weekend, recorded a 2380 in air rifle and a 2347 in smallbore.
Freshman Frans Rasmusson, who has put together a solid first season on the collegiate level and has a resume for an individual bid to the 2024 NCAA Rifle Championships if the Gamecocks are not awarded a team berth in a few weeks. Rasmusson led the Gamecocks with a total of 1179 after the sharing the top spot in air rifle with MSU's Scott Patterson. He and Patterson fired a 597 and added a 582 in smallbore.
Sophomore Annie Iannotti bolstered Jax State's air rifle mark with a 594 and capped off the day with a 579 in smallbore for a match total of 1173. Junior Sam Burrow collected an 1170 aggregate total after a 592 in air rifle and a 578 in smallbore. Senior Lars Lilleng rounded out the team score with an 1155 with a 591 in air rifle and a 564 in smallbore.
The Gamecocks counted a 579 from sophomore Clark McWhorter in smallbore.
Jax State will be looking to improve its team totals in the NCAA Sectional match next Saturday at the Gamecock Rifle Range inside Rowe Hall.
