CHARLESTON, S.C. — Frans Rasmusson etched himself into the NCAA record books as the third player ever to shoot a 600 in air rifle with 59 center shots on Thursday afternoon, as the 14th-ranked Jax State rifle team opened the spring semester with a 4704-4459 victory over The Citadel at the Inouye Marksmanship Center in Charleston, South Carolina.
While this is the sixth 600 shot in air rifle in the NCAA this season, the score ties an NCAA record for the highest number of centers on a 600 score since the NCAA began recording center shots. The two student-athletes Rasmusson shares the distinction with are Kentucky's Sofia Ceccarello and Braden Peiser, who both shot 600-59x during the 2024-25 season.
Rasmusson was the top individual performer in the match, posting an aggregate of 1189 with 96 center shots. In smallbore, he posted a score of 589 with 37 center shots.
Maja Pedersen was the second leading performer with an aggregate of 1175 and 76 centers. She shot 583-31x in smallbore, good for second, with a score of 593-45x in air rifle, which was good for third.
Lars Lilleng finished third overall with a smallbore score of 583-25x and an air rifle score of 586-39, which was sixth in the air rifle standings.
Akos Marta and
Annie Iannotti rounded out the top five with aggregate scores of 1168-71x and 1163-56x, respectively. Marta posted a smallbore score of 571-21x and an air rifle score of 597-50x, while Iannotti posted a smallbore score of 579-25x and an air rifle score of 584-31x.
The Gamecocks will return to action of January 25th in the Withrow Invitational hosted by Murray State.
