Jax State's home for men's and women's basketball and volleyball is Pete Mathews Coliseum, a 3,500-seat multipurpose facility that meets the growing needs of the University and its Athletics Department. The Coliseum was opened in 1974 and underwent a complete renovation in 2015 with the addition of new seats and a new playing floor. Following damage repairs from the 2018 EF-3 tornado that crossed JSU's campus, two new videoboards were installed in opposite corners of the arena. Basketball team lounges were also enhanced, while Jax State's Sports Medicine team relocated to a new space on the coliseum's first floor.

On Jan. 6, 2024, Jax State's men's basketball team defeated FIU in its first-ever Conference USA game which marked the program's 500th home win inside Pete Mathews Coliseum.

Pete Mathews Coliseum houses the athletic administration offices as well as staff offices for men's basketball, women's basketball, softball, volleyball, tennis, track & field, cross country, rifle and soccer.

Locker rooms for men's basketball, women's basketball, soccer and volleyball teams are located on the first floor, and the Indoor Practice Facility is housed on the second floor of the building's east side.

Pete Mathews Coliseum is also home to the Calhoun County boys and girls basketball tournament and has previously served as the site of the Alabama High School Athletic Association Girls State Basketball Tournament. It still plays host to the AHSAA's Northeast Regional Basketball Tournament.
