JIM CASE
Head Coach
This spring, JSU head coach Jim Case begins his inaugural season with the Gamecock baseball program.
Case was hired on April 17, 2001 to succeed Hall-of-Fame coach Rudy Abbott, who retired following 32 seasons as head coach.
Although this is his first head coaching position, Case has a wealth of baseball experience. Case's coaching expertise spans three decades and more than 1,000 games on the collegiate level, including the last four as an assistant coach at Mississippi State.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity to be the head baseball coach at Jacksonville State University," said Case. "To me, the tradition of baseball at Jacksonville State is outstanding.
"Coach Rudy Abbott has done a tremendous job and I look forward and I look forward to being part of the tradition and the baseball program," Case said.
The Birmingham, Ala. native joined the Mississippi State staff in June, 1997 after serving as an assistant at UAB the previous 11 seasons. He served as a graduate assistant coach at Mississippi State from 1984 to 1986, tutoring MSU's catchers. During that span, Case helped the Bulldogs to the 1985 NCAA College World Series and a No. 3 national ranking.
"Jim brings a wealth of experience at extremely successful programs throughout the South," said JSU Athletics Director Tom Seitz. "He is a class individual and an excellent coach."
Case was a three-sport letterman and all-city performer in baseball and football during his high school career at Birmingham's Ensley High School, where he played under coach George Gould and was regarded as one of the top defensive catchers in the city's prep ranks.
Following high school graduation in 1978, Case continued his baseball playing career at Louisiana Tech, where he earned All-Southland Conference honors as a catcher in 1981. He served as a student assistant coach in 1983 at Louisiana Tech before joining Mississippi State as a graduate assistant in 1984.
Case is married to the former Jan Orton of Birmingham and they are the proud parents of two daughters, Catherine and Elizabeth.
