2002 SPRING UPDATE: With every repetition Russell takes, he learns and gets better.continued his maturation at three different defensive positions along with his physical play, he will be a player to watch in the secondary this fall.JSU CAREER: Just one of three true freshman to start, Green was fourth on the Gamecocks with 46 tackles (29 unassisted)...best game came against Tennessee Tech, where he had 11 tackles, eight of which were solo efforts...recorded seven tackles in back-to-back games vs. Southwest Texas and Northwestern State...also had one pass break-up and one fumble recovery...HIGH SCHOOL: Played for head coach Curtis Coleman at Huffman High School...selected as the Defensive Player-of-the-Year following his senior season in 2001...helped lead the Vikings to into the third round of the playoffs with a 12-1 record.finished with seven interceptions in only six games, but missed several games with an ankle injury.posted his best game with 12 tackles and two interceptions.was named Birmingham News All-Metro defensive team.also lettered in basketball and baseball.earned the 2001 Huffman Coaches Award.graduated as an honor student...PERSONAL: Full name is Russell Ronzell Green.born on April 13, 1983.son of Jerome and Michelle Green...has one younger brother and sister and one older sister.lists Ronnie Lott as his favorite athlete. major is undeclared.
