Morehead, Ky.—Jacksonville State’s Shari Weyer, who was also named the Ohio Valley Conference Freshman of the Year, had 13 kills with only one error to lead the Gamecocks, but it wasn’t enough to help JSU over the No.6 seeded Murray State Racers, Friday in the league tournament. MSU won, 3-0 at Wetherby Gym on the campus of host Morehead State.
In game one, Jax State went on a 4-0 run to go ahead of the Racers, before there were four game point situations in a 34-32 loss for the Gamecocks. In game two, JSU was down by as much as 16-9, before losing 30-20. Murray State won game three and the match, 30-27.
“After the first game of the match, Murray State recovered well from such a long game one,” said JSU head coach Rick Nold. “Their experience was in their favor, but we had a great season and I am looking forward to better things next year.”
OVC Player of the Year Christina Cary had 14 kills and five blocks for the Gamecocks, while sophomore Suzi Terrell added 12 kills.
