AUBURN, Ala.-- Jacksonville State's
Josphat Waweru won the Auburn Invite, Monday, October 11th at the Indian Pines Golf Course.
Waweru finished the race in first, 16 seconds ahead of Alabama's Alex Korir and helped lead JSU to seventh place finish at the invite.
"I was very happy about the way our guys ran. I was happy with
Josphat's victory," said JSU head coach
Heath Dudley. "He set a new school record along with several that set personal bests. We still need someone to step up with
Ryan (
McKay) gone for the season."
Gamecock sophomores
Wade Martin and
Yibeltal Arega finished 22nd and 23rd respectively.
Matt Morgan finished in 91st,
Jason Butler in 96th,
Stephen Calvert in 103rd and
Robert Stevenson in 124th.
The JSU women finished in 16th at the meet and were led by
Megan Ziarek in 54th place with a time of 20:08.
"The ladies ran well today. I was impressed with the aggressiveness that
Megan,
Latosha, and
Shelbee ran with,"
Dudley said. "This meet and the way than ran will only help them get better and better."
Jax State's
Emily Hulse was in 94th,
Shelbee Roberts in 137th,
Latosha Taliaferro in 141st,
Mackenzie Hays in 142nd, and
Stephanie Jones in 146th.
JSU's next meet is Friday, October 22nd at the MSU Shortcourse Invitational in Starkville, Mississippi.
