BRENTWOOD, Tenn.-- Jacksonville State's
Josphat Waweru was named Ohio Valley Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week in a release by the conference.
"It is a true honor for me to be named OVC Athlete of the Week," said
Waweru. "I think it is a true indication of how good of a team we are."
Waweru won his second meet of the season on Monday at the Auburn Invitational with a personal best and school record time of 24:35 in the 8K mile race. He finished the meet 16 seconds ahead of Alex Korir of Alabama.
The Makuru, Kenya native's win led JSU to a seventh place finish at the Invitational behind Southeastern Conference foes Mississippi State and Alabama.
Waweru's first meet win came at the Great American Classic in Charlotte, N.C. where he led Jax State to its first-ever team meet victory.
"I think this honor gives me and the team inspiration to go out work hard and achieve more," said
Waweru.
JSU's next meet is Friday, October 22nd at the MSU Shortcourse Invitational in Starkville, Mississippi.
