JACKSONVILLE, Ala.-- Jacksonville State dropped its first game to an instate opponent Tuesday night, as UAB dropped the Gamecocks 8-3.

UAB (30-19) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning, when Cole Helms scored on a J.R. Bond sacrifice fly to center field. Rush would later single through the left side and score Seth Rollin.

Jax State (25-22) would cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the second, as Jake Ball would score on a Brian Haskins sac fly.

The Blazers would add two more runs in the top of the third, as McCorkle would score on a Helms single, after reaching base on a two out walk. Rollin would then double to center field on score Helms.

UAB would add another run in the fourth inning and push the lead out to 5-1, before JSU could tack on its final two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

UAB would add its final three runs in the top of the ninth and secure an 8-3 victory over the Gamecocks. The win marked UAB's first win in six tries.

Randy Mills (3-2) picked up the win on the mound, going five innings while surrendering three runs on eight hits. Adam Price pitched the final four innings and notched his first save of the year.

JSU's Tony Drinkard (0-3) got the loss in three innings of work on the mound, allowing four runs on seven hits.

JSU and UAB will meet Wednesday night at UAB. First pitch for the game is 7 p.m.
