JSU's Hand Named Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American

This Sunday, June 12 at 2 p.m. CT on NBC, former Jacksonville State defensive back Delvin Hughley and the American Conference Champion Colorado Crush (12-6) take on the National Conference Champion Georgia Force (13-5) in ArenaBowl XIX Las Vegas, the AFL’s championship game, to be held at Thomas and Mack Center.
Hughley, currently in his third AFL season, returned for a second stint with the Crush, after playing 2004 with the Indiana Firebirds. In 2005, Hughley finished with 75.5 total tackles, 21 pass breakups and two interceptions.
One of his interceptions was returned 48 yards for a touchdown against Columbus in week eight. Hughley has amassed 11.5 tackles and one interception in the Crush’s two playoff wins.
A four-year starter at Jacksonville State (Jacksonville, AL), Hughley finished his career with 205 tackles, seven interceptions and 36 passes defended. Was an All-Southland Football League second-team selection as a senior in 2000, posting 65 tackles and a team-leading 16 passes defended.
The native of Anniston, AL played football, basketball, tennis and ran track at Anniston High School, but did not play football until his senior year. An
honorable mention all-state selection and an all-county pick as a senior in 1995.
