MONTGOMERY – Jacksonville State shot a team score of 305 and is in sixth place after Monday’s opening round of the Troy Women’s Invitational, played at the par-72, 5,888-yard Arrowhead County Club.
South Alabama leads the 15-team field with a 4-over 292, followed by Louisiana-Monroe (297), Austin Peay (300), while Belmont and Murray State are both tied for fourth place with a total of 302.
The Gamecocks were led by Alexandria Espinosa, who shot a 2-over 74 and it tied for seventh place. Michele Thomson is tied for 13th with a 75, while Manuela Tarazona is tied for 27th after scoring a 77. Portia Abbott finished with a 79, while Mercedes Huarte shot an 81 in the opening round. Ashley Cox is tied for 34th with a 78 as an individual for the Gamecocks.
The Gamecocks will play the final round with Belmont and Murray State at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.
