BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Jacksonville State’s LeMarcus Rowell has been named the Ohio Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Sunday.
Rowell, a native of Opelika, scooped up a fumble and raced 36 yards for a touchdown to give JSU a 10-7 lead over No. 5 Furman on the road before the Gamecocks dropped a 17-13 decision to the Paladins.
Rowell also finished with three tackles from his outside linebacker position as he helped the JSU defense hold the high-powered Furman offense to just 135 passing yards.
The Gamecocks are off this Saturday before returning to the field on Sept. 16 against Southeast Missouri State at Paul Snow Stadium.
