JSU Baseball Opens Weekend Series at Eastern Kentucky

2007 JSU FOOTBALL SCHEDULE (.pdf)

JACKSONVILLE – Seven games in the State of Alabama and a trip to Memphis to face the Tigers highlight the 2007 Jacksonville State football schedule, released by Director of Athletics Jim Fuller and Head Football Coach Jack Crowe today.

“We feel like this schedule is very attractive,” said Fuller. “It allows our fans an opportunity to see seven games in the State of Alabama and also a chance to visit a great city in Memphis against a very competitive Conference USA team.”

Jacksonville State opens the 2007 season on Sept. 1, when the Gamecocks travel to Montgomery to play Alabama State. It marks the first meeting between the two schools since the 1981 season.

The Gamecocks open their home schedule the following week on Sept. 8, against Chattanooga before traveling to face Conference USA member Memphis at the Liberty Bowl on Sept. 15.

“This schedule renews an old rivalry in Alabama State and I think it will be a fun game for our players, fans, band and alumni,” said Crowe. “Chattanooga has become a rivalry-type game for us over the last four years and the chance to play against a quality opponent like Memphis should prepare us for a competitive OVC schedule.”

Jacksonville State opens the Ohio Valley Conference portion of its schedule on Sept. 22 at home when the Gamecocks host Eastern Kentucky. The Gamecocks travel to face Murray State on Sept. 29, before returning home for a Thursday night game against defending conference co-champion Tennessee-Martin.

The Gamecocks then travel to face Austin Peay on Oct 13 and this will be the Govs first season to compete for the OVC Football Championship in over 15 years. It also marks the first meeting between JSU and APSU since 1979, when the Govs claimed a 21-13 win.

Homecoming 2007 is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 20, against Tennessee Tech before an open date and traveling to face Samford on Nov. 3 in Birmingham. The Gamecocks play their final home game on Nov. 10 against Eastern Illinois, who has won at least a share of the last two OVC Championships, before closing out the regular-season at Southeast Missouri State on Nov. 17.
