JACKSONVILLE – Freshman Eduardo Saratt extended his winning streak in singles play to 13 games as Jacksonville State’s men’s tennis edged out Samford 4-3 to knock the Bulldogs from the ranks of the unbeaten in the Ohio Valley Conference Tuesday in Jacksonville.
The Gamecocks (12-5, 6-1 OVC) were swept through the doubles point, forcing JSU to win four of the six singles matches.
JSU took the lead after straight set wins by Joey Unkenholz and Saratt.
Samford battled back to tie the match at two when Sam Huffman knocked off JSU’s Chris Duke in straight sets.
The Gamecocks closed the deal with two three set wins from Bernardo Bachino and Andres Amores to move Jacksonville State into second place in the OVC.
The Gamecocks will be in action again Saturday in a battle for first place in the OVC as they play host to Tennessee Tech at 11:00 a.m
