
Gamecock Rifle Fires Past Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. – The Jacksonville State rifle team defeated a top 10 opponent for the second straight week, firing its way past Ohio Valley Conference rival and No. 9 Murray State on Saturday. JSU earned a win over seventh ranked Nevada at the Gamecock Rifle Range on October 25.
JSU scored 2,309 points in the smallbore and 2,339 in the air rifle for a team aggregate score of 4,644. Murray State had 2,237 points in the smallbore and 2296 in the air rifle for 4,533 points.
"The team did great this weekend,” said Head Coach Ron Frost. “This is the best score we have shot so far this year and I hope they can continue this momentum throughout the rest of the season. Our smallbore, which we really struggled with last year, is becoming
more consistent and we are averaging about 20 pts more this season as compared to last."

The Gamecocks claimed the top three slots in smallbore and air rifle. Brian Carstensen led JSU in the smallbore with a personal best score of 583 points and duplicated the 583 points in the air rifle to take third.
Michael Dickinson led the match with a 589 in the air rifle and had 579 points in the smallbore. Phil Huckaby totaled 581 points in the air rifle and 576 in the smallbore. Matt MacKenzie totaled 567 points as one of designated counters in the smallbore and scored a 579 in the air rifle as an individual.
Andrea Dardas registered a personal best 567 in the smallbore and targeted a 586 in the air rifle. Christy Gentemann competed as an individual and recorded a personal best 576 in the air rifle and 543 points in the smallbore.
The Gamecocks remain on the road on Saturday at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn.
