JACKSONVILLE – Head football coach Jack Crowe announced today that Ryan Perrilloux has signed to play football for Jacksonville State University.
The former LSU quarterback will be eligible to play immediately since he is transferring from Football Bowl Subdivision to Football Championship Subdivision.
“This is an unbelievable talent and one that can play on any football field at any level,” said JSU head coach Jack Crowe. “For Ryan to play for us defines a new opportunity for our team. Football is not a one-man game, but the quarterback is a very important position on the team and hopefully, our team will respond to the caliber of player that Ryan is.”
Perrilloux played in 12 games as a sophomore last year and helped put the Tigers in the 2007 BCS National Championship by stepping in for an injured Matt Flynn in the SEC title game and leading the Tigers to a 21-14 win over Tennessee. He was named the Most Valuable Player of the SEC title game after connecting on 20-of-30 passes for 245 yards and a touchdown in the win.
The LaPlace, La., native was named the National Offensive Player of the Year by USA Today and was a consensus five-star All-American by every major recruiting publication as a high school senior. He racked up a Louisiana high school record 5,006 total yards of offense as a senior, including 3,546 yards passing and 1,460 yards rushing.
Jacksonville State opens the 2008 season at Georgia Tech on Thursday, August 28th, in Atlanta.
