
JSU Rifle Splits Pair Of Weekend Road Matches

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State Rifle team split a pair of road matches over the weekend, falling to the University of Kentucky and wrapping up the trip with a win over conference foe Morehead State.
Kentucky claimed a 4654 to 4567 win over the Gamecocks on Saturday. The Wildcats scored 2313 points in smallbore and 2341points in air rifle. JSU posted scores of 2253 in the smallbore and 2314 in air rifle.
Brian Carstensen targeted a 582 in the smallbore to finish second and had a 586 for fourth in the air rifle against Kentucky.
In the smallbore, Kayla Allen placed sixth with a 566 followed by Christina Bornefeld in seventh with 558 and Matt Mackenzie was eighth with a 547.
Monica Fyfe finished with a 579 to place sixth in the air rifle. Mackenzie and Bornefeld were seventh and eighth with 577 and 571, respectively.
The Gamecocks shot 2234 in smallbore and 2308 in air rifle for an aggregate score of 4542 in the win over Morehead State on Sunday. The Eagles totaled 2232 in smallbore and 2264 in air rifle for a 4496 aggregate score.
Carstensen again led the charges for the Gamecocks in smallbore and air rifle with a 584 in smallbore and a 585 in the air rifle as the top overall shooter on the day.
MacKenzie had a 576 in air rifle and a 549 in smallbore while Allen finished with a 573 in air rifle and a 545 in smallbore.
Bornefeld shot a 565 in air rifle and scored a 556 as an individual in smallbore and Fyfe scored a 574 in air rifle.
Jacksonville State returns to action hosting Tennessee Tech and Columbus State on Saturday at the JSU Rifle Range.
