Greg Seitz has been tabbed to serve as acting athletic director at Jacksonville State University, announced University President Dr. William A. Meehan on Friday.
Seitz is serving in the role after Oval Jaynes retired after spending the last three years as the Gamecocks' Athletic Director.
“I want to thank Dr. Meehan for the opportunity to serve during this transition period,” he said after accepting his new position. “I just want to continue to keep the athletic department running smoothly until a permanent athletic director is named.”
Seitz acknowledged Jaynes, saying, “We are certainly going to miss Mr. Jaynes. I have learned so much from working under his leadership. I would like to wish him the best in his retirement.”
Seitz has been with JSU since 1993, when he began working as assistant sports information director. In 1999, he became Sports Information Director, and then promoted to Associate Athletic Director in 2002. He also has worked as a media relations assistant for NASCAR, at both Daytona International Speedway and Talladega Superspeedway.
Seitz, who has served on the NCAA Men's Final Four Media Coordinator team for the last two years, has served as a media coordinator and press box coordinator for several NCAA and AHSAA tournaments in the past 18 years, and in 2002 became the first SID elected as President of the Alabama Sports Writers Association.
