
Meyer Leads JSU Volleyball to Sweep against Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. – Jen Meyer recorded 12 kills on a .478 hitting percentage to lead the Jacksonville State volleyball team to a sweep over Murray State (25-20, 25-18, 25-14) Saturday afternoon at Racer Arena.
With their second win in as many days, The Gamecocks start Ohio Valley Conference play with a 2-0 record and improve to 8-8 overall. The Racers have now lost six straight to the Gamecocks and fall to 3-8 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Meyer and Emily Rutherford helped JSU claim the first set 25-20. Rutherford finished with five kills in the set, while Meyer added four kills. The Gamecocks hit .440 in the second set and held the Racers to a -.056 hitting percentage and 11 errors on way to the 25-18 victory. JSU then breezed through the third et 25-14 to clinch the match.
Overall, JSU hit .304 for the match and recorded 10 total blocks. Meyer led the Gamecocks with 12 kills on a .478 hitting percentage while Rutherford added nine kills. Kelsey Anderson recorded 12 digs for the Gamecocks and Alina Agamy added 30 assists.
The Racers were led by Beth Mahurin with nine kills. Lio Havili recorded 25 assists while Katlyn Hudson added 10 digs.
The Gamecocks will travel to Cookeville, Tenn., on Tuesday to face Tennessee Tech at 6 p.m. before returning home for their season-opener on Saturday at Pete Mathews Coliseum against Southeast Missouri State at 7 p.m. Admission is free to all JSU home matches.
