MORGANTON, N.C. – The Jacksonville State women's golf team shot a final-round 310 on Tuesday to move into a tie for third at the Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate, where senior Ornella Arrizon's final-round 78 gave her a sixth-place finish.
JSU ended the two-day, 36-hole event with a score of 629, finishing behind host and team champion Appalachian State and Winthrop and in a tie with Wofford for third place in the 12-team event. The Gamecocks moved up two spots on the final day on the par-72, 5,810-yard Mimosa Hills Golf Course.
Arrizon, a native of Mexico City, Mexico, used an opening-round 75 to set the tone on Monday and then wrapped up the two-day event with the six-over 78. Her 36-hole score of 153 left her seven shots back of medalist Meagan Wallace of Winthrop in the 66-player field.
JSU placed four players in the top 25 on the individual leaderboard, including sophomore Maya Parsons in a tie for 12th. The Whitby, Ontario, native improved her score by four shots with a second-round 76 on Tuesday and finished the 36-hole tournament with a score of 156.
Senior Lauz Armijo-Fernandez (81-79-160) and freshman Melania Bajo Geijo (83-77-160) each tied for 24th, while freshman Melani Sisto (83-82-165) finished in a tie for 42nd.
The Gamecocks have one event remaining before the Ohio Valley Conference Championships in late April. They will play in the Samford Lady Bulldog Intercollegiate on April 8-9 at the Hoover (Ala.) Country Club.
