
Gamecocks No. 1 in STATS Poll For 5th Straight Week

JACKSONVILLE – The Jacksonville State football team held onto its No. 1 ranking in the STATS FCS Poll and the No. 3 spot in the FCS Coaches Poll after its off week last week.
The Gamecocks (4-1, 2-0 Ohio Valley Conference) received 89 first-place votes for the second-straight week in the STATS poll and had 3,853 total votes to hold the top spot for the fifth-straight week. It marks the 23rd straight week that JSU has been ranked in the Top 10 of at least one FCS poll, a streak that dates back to the final poll of 2013.
North Dakota State received 27 first-place votes and 3,707 total votes and jumped Coastal Carolina for the second spot in the STATS poll after a win over No. 10 Northern Iowa on Saturday. UNI dropped to No. 12. CCU is third with 30 first-place votes and 3,679 total votes. Illinois State and James Madison held their spots in fourth and fifth, respectively.
Eastern Kentucky climbed from 17th to No. 14 after a win over Tennessee Tech and is the only other OVC team in the Top 25.
In the Coaches Poll, Coastal Carolina held on to the No. 1 spot with 15 first-place votes and 628 total votes, barely ahead of second-place NDSU. The Bison grabbed five first-place votes and 623 overall, while the Gamecocks received 600 total votes and four first-place votes.
ISU and JMU are No. 4 and No. 5 in the Coaches Poll, as well, while EKU moved from No. 20 to No. 15.
The Gamecocks will return to action Saturday at Tennessee Tech in Cookeville, Tenn., a game that will kick off at 6 p.m. CT. It will be broadcast on the Gamecock Sports Network and on the OVC Digital Network. It will begin a six-game OVC stretch over the final six weeks of the regular season.
