
JSU Rifle Halfway To Ninth OVC Crown; Wins OVC Smallbore Title

JACKSONVILLE – The nationally-ranked Jacksonville State rifle team is half way to its ninth overall and fourth straight Ohio Valley Conference Rifle Championship after claiming the 2015 OVC Smallbore crown on Saturday at the 2015 OVC Rifle Championships, hosted by JSU at the Gamecock Rifle Range.
Jax State, ranked No. 4 in the nation, won its eighth OVC Smallbore title with a final mark of 2311. The Gamecocks will take an eight-shot advantage in to Sunday's air rifle portion of the championship. The first air rifle relay is set to get underway at 8 a.m. Murray State stands second after the opening day after posting a 2303. The Gamecocks and Racers have a sizeable gap between the rest of the field.
Senior Dan McCall became the seventh different Gamecock to win individual honors in smallbore. A Jax State shooter has won smallbore in the last seven years. The Baltimore, Maryland-native edged out MSU's Ben Estes by one mark with a 584. Senior Cole Tucker and sophomore Brandon Muske turned marks of 577. Junior Samantha Bullard and senior Brent Books rounded out the Red and White scorecard with scores of 573.
UT Martin stands third in the team standings with a 2295, followed by Morehead State (2292), Columbus State (2246) and UTM Women (2193).
