JSU Climbs To 3rd in STATS, 4th in Coaches Poll

JACKSONVILLE – Jacksonville State climbed in both major FCS polls on Monday, moving one spot to third in the STATS poll and two spots to fourth in the Coaches Poll.
The Gamecocks (2-1) used a hard-fought win over No. 17 Coastal Carolina on Saturday to remain in the top five in the STATS Poll, where they were fourth last week. Losses by Richmond and Illinois State opened up spots in the Coaches Poll, where Jax State climbed back into the Top five.
The release of this week's polls marks the 34th consecutive week that JSU has been ranked in the Top 10 of at least one of the two polls, dating back to the final poll of the 2014 season. JSU and North Dakota State are the only two teams that have been in the Top 10 for each week during that time. The Bisons were a unanimous No. 1 pick in both polls after an upset at Iowa, who was No. 13 in the FBS polls last week.
Sam Houston State climbed to No. 2 in both polls, while Chattanooga holds the No. 3 spot in the Coaches Poll. The Mocs are fifth in STATS, behind Eastern Washington in fourth.
JSU is joined by fellow OVC member Eastern Illinois in the polls after the Panthers upset No. 5 Illinois State last week. EIU is 16th in the Coaches Poll and 18th in the STATS poll this week.
The Gamecocks travel to Liberty this week for a 6 p.m. CT game in Lynchburg, Va. The Flames are receiving votes in both polls.
