Gamecocks Remain Third In Both Polls

JACKSONVILLE – After an historic win over Eastern Kentucky on Saturday, the Jacksonville State football team held on to the No. 3 spot in both polls that were released on Monday.
The Gamecocks (5-1, 3-0 Ohio Valley Conference) coasted to a 41-25 win over EKU to extend the longest active conference win streak in all of Division I football to 27 games and broke the Colonels' OVC record in the meantime. JSU passed Eastern Kentucky's OVC record of 26-straight league wins from 1992-95 and now holds the second-longest conference win streak in FCS history behind Duquesne's 39-straight Metro Atlantic wins from 1999-2006.
Extending the streak also allowed JSU to remain No. 3 in both the FCS Coaches Poll and the STATS FCS Top 25.
The latest rankings put the Gamecocks in the Top 10 for the 53rd-straight week, a stretch that dates back to the final polls of the 2013 season. JSU has been in the Top six in at least one of the polls for 35-straight weeks now, dating back to the first week of the 2015 season. North Dakota State is the only other team to join JSU in both of those streaks.
The Bison are No. 2 in both polls, right behind defending national champion James Madison at No. 1. South Dakota is No. 4 in both, while Wofford rounds out the top five in both polls.
JSU is the only OVC team ranked in either poll, while Eastern Illinois and Austin Peay are each receiving votes in the STATS FCS Top 25.
The Gamecocks go on the road this week, where they will face Eastern Illinois in a battle of the OVC's only remaining unbeaten teams. The Panthers (5-2, 4-0 OVC) and Gamecocks are tied for the league's longest active overall winning streak at four games and will put those on the line at 2 p.m. Saturday in Charleston, Ill. The game will be broadcast on ESPN3 and the Watch ESPN App, and it will also be carried live on the JSU Radio Network.
